Hi Guys
This is my first post so be easy on me lol. The problem I’m having is a bit of a long story I will try and shorten it for you. I have a 06 206 1.4 16v sport which has got 82,000 miles on the clock. The cam belt jumped which in turn caused the valves to bend, this may or may not have been a result of putting too much oil into the car. Anyway the first thing me and my mechanic did was strip to head of the engine and assess the damage, I had managed to bend all the valves which in turn meant rebuilding the top half of the engine so this is what we replaced head gasket, cam belt, oil filter, thermostat, valves and a few other bits and pieces. The car then started to kick up a fault “Insufficient oil pressure” now this is only when I come of the motorway and cruises down to a set of lights i.e. the car goes to idle and the only time this fault occurs is when the revs drop below approx 8000rpm this will continue every time I stop until I switch the car of for a certain amount of time.
Spoke to Peugeot first port of call was to replace the oil sensor, did this but it did not help at all then Peugeot questioned me in regards to the replacement oil filter and suggested if it wasn’t a genuine Peugeot filter it may not have been modified like the Peugeot ones, so booked it into Peugeot who changed oil filter and oil not a problem.
This did not fix the fault and at this point as you can imagine it’s starting to annoy me a wee little bit so sent it off to Peugeot for diagnostics, the results being a suspected faulty oil pump so this was changed. This did not fix the fault although it has cut it down slightly so it does not occur 100% of the time more like 85%. So now I am at my wicks end with the car and really need some advice, I am sure someone out there will have had the same problem and can come along and say “oh it’s this” I would be eternally grateful if this was to happen as otherwise I will be forced to sell my beloved pug in fear of it completely dying on me and leaving me stranded. I appreciate any help or advise and can I just say my car knowledge is very limited so please don’t judge me if I have explained something incorrectly.

i had this problem with my GTi... but in all fairness i smashed a big hole in the sump lol, maybe the oil pickup tube is clogged or something? or maybe you have a leak in the sump enough to drop the pressure?

I had this on my gti all it was for me was an earth cable had rubbed through on another cable and was causing it to think something was rng

Did they change the sensor which is located just below the oil filter?

Nope i tried tht meself first and it didnt work. Also tried an oil and filter change and tht didnt wrk. Get it plugged into diagnostic machina and they should be able to tell u whats wrong. Thts how i got mine sorted

Thanks for the input guys Reali appreciate it iv had the sensor underneath the oil filter changed have suspected an electrical problem can you give me any more information as to how you sorted the earthing problem. I took it to Peugeot for diagnostics would they not have plugged it into there machine and seen if it kicked up a fault?

Measure the oil pressure from the engine with a pressure gauge
You either have a electrical fault with the pressure switch or its wiring
OR
You have a sick lump.
It would have been easier to replace the engine then carry out all that repair work, ET3 lump's pretty cheap & in most decent scrapyards now

daft question i know, is the head gasket fitted correctly? only ask due to some fiat's can have them fitted wrong way but it all bolts down ok, next it rattles away because fitted wrong it blocks n oil way from block to head
just a thought, don't know if this is possible on 206's

As far as i'm aware its all fitted correctly, i'm leaning towards more of an electrical problem as we seem to have replaced nearly every components connected to the oil. How does one go about diagnosing an electrical fault anf fixing it?

Taking it to pug plugging it in and getting them to fix it for £48.50 well thts how much it cost me anyway
