Hello Went to get fuel yesterday had 3/4 of a tank, filled it up to the 2nd click got back in and the gauge is still on 3/4 hasn't moved up to the full mark at all have tried turning car on and off and leaving it over night made no difference, any ideas????
Also car only doing 24 m.p.g surely this can't be right for a 1.4 8v petrol

Does it stay there even when the car is off?

If it doesn't, try rebooting the BSI

This happened to me once. As you know you know you have a full tank, youve got at least 300 miles in it, drive it until youve done 300 miles and the needle should drop, fill it back up and see what happens.

When this happened to me, i had a full tank, but when i started my car it had dropped to 3/4. Drove till the needle dropped and refilled.

seen this problem a few time, normaly the float on the fuel pump has got fuel isn't it and is not giving a correct reading, you have 2 options,
disconnect the wiring and get another pump from some wer and then lift up the level and see what it reads on the clock or 2. get a drill and remove the rivits on the fuel pump cover and take it out and test it with out buying another 1,

What a nightmare today have taken out the fuel pump, car had much more fuel in it than we had thought ended up filling up the bowl shape thing that the pump sits in then running out all over the floor Ouch, managed to save about 35 litres into cans !!!!! took it out cleaned the sender unit and re fitted it had to then use the car to go to a friend who had a pump to put fuel back in it, driving along car stopped so i got out and petrol so pouring out from under the car , lifted back seat and the vacuum pipe had come off put it back on and the car started leaving big puddle of petrol on the floor.
On the good point after putting the rest of the saved petrol back in gauge is working again Smile
Thankyou for all your replies , also hoping if the sender was stuck, car might not be so bad on fuel as i was thinking !

glad you got it sorted it reminded me of a time when i had a petrol leak on a car and i thought the tank had split and the breathers were blocked so after leaving it leaking down the drive all night i took the fuel cap off started stripping it down to remove the tank and my dad decided to blow down the breather i got fuel in my hair mouth eyes nose bassically showered me in it (stings like mad when its in your eyes!) anyway the next day come an i decided to take the tank out on my own undone everything couldnt get it out then give it a shuffle and it drops on me chest nearly breaking my ribs and the bloody thing was virtually full up to the brim!!

Laughing ended up it wasnt leaking just been over filled! what a doughtnut i felt!
