my 206 2000 diesel has develeoped a fault that makes it wobble on the road only between 45 and 55 miles an hour. the wobbling is quite serious and if held at that speed it feels very unerving. also on potholed roads there is a knocking sound coming from underneath. Ive had its wheels balanced and its wheel nuts checked. A guy has just said its from the drivers side front wheel and he thinks its a drive shaft thats gone... does this sound right.
has anyone else had something similar happen?

also look into wheel bearings, jack the car up and wobble the wheel, play in it will mean it most likely needs changing.
