At Fast Show this year I've challenged my mate to a race on the 1/4 mile for all the remarks he makes about my car being french, the winner gets a pint and a bag of scratchins so you can see the magnitude of this business Laughing

My 74hp vs his 78hp zetec, I think he is putting some money into induction kit just for the day to up his odds, but I think that instead of going down that route I'm just going to renew my paper filter, change engine oil and transmission fluid

Are there any other things I can change maintainance wise to make it run as smooth as possible? Its just a laugh with a mate but I really want to see if all the hundreds of pounds into induction kits and mods is a false economy, can servicing a car prove just to be as effective as modding?

1.6 inlet manifold and throttle body (also ported)

If anything the induction will reduce his odds

EDIT (should read it not skim it): I would vote a really thorough service would be alot better than an induction

I personally would change paper filter for panel filter, use 99 ron petrol and give the car a good service beforehand.

dont most induction kits lower the cars power? Unless you get one with a cold air feed it just sucks hot air from the engine bay.... sounds cool tho

Any recommendation on filter?

I think he was looking at cold feeds, I'd like to keep it as standard as possible because to see his face having lost to a standard french 8 valver would be good!

Is the zetec much faster?

edit: can you get those stickers in red? red is an extra 10hp!
