| nick180 what power is your 180 putting out? |
When. First got her 167 bhp
Now. Set up on a rolling road at re performance 173 bhp.
Will try and find my print outs.
All done on the same rolling road.

| no you will see a difference in driablity and a little more BHP and torque |
Response and economy will both improve - the remap will (should) make the engine more efficient.
Power might not improve, but the delivery will. You will notice the difference

| I'm betting that the cammed and mapped 180 would absolutely slaughter another mapped up 180 without the cams. |
You'd need about double the torque to slaughter another 180. |
I'd like to see a cam'd one vs another 180, i'd be suprised if there wasn't a significant difference in acceleration.. do they not work well with higher lifting cams then?
Cam's and map make a huge difference on most cars, for example on a Saxo yarrrrrs a Saxo, mine is around 130-40 bhp so i'm told just the usual breathing mods (uprated filter ~ Simota CAI, 421-decat back, denso irridium plugs)
Mapped up with cams they can produce up to 165bhp and they rip past breathered vts's easily:) |
The cams in Kyle's car work at higher revs than a normal 180, so in theory it is slower at lower revs. Therefore it will not 'slaughter' another 180 except in hi-rev acceleration and outright pace.
Kyle commented how quick my 180 was [granted, he had done all the servicing/cambelt/clutch etc on it lol]

Yeh but that's the thing, high rev acceleration, the situation we are talking about is a race.
So arguably he will always be in the power band won't he? unless he can't drive or is it not as simple as that? as to race you simply rev the tits of cars to get them to go like you already do to get a 180 to move lol, i'd agree with him possibly getting caught out, out of VVT?
The 180's seem to rev up nice and freely, and from a standing start surely he'd ace it, and in gear providing they are both racing from VVT again would be gone?
And then is that also not down to crap mapping? if it's not a generic map surely it would be mapped up to get the best out of everything?
Please enlighten me lol, it just seems strange going by experience with other cars
(Please don't take offence to anything or the way I put it, i'm just curious:))

Do you understand how VVT works? It's not stepped like a VTEC system where the engine suddenly makes more power. It doesn't just suddenly come into play, all it does is constantly change the cam timing dependent on engine speed and load. So it's always working.

what kind of race are you talking about? if you are talking about motorway floorer that might be true.
but in reality, depends on the camshaft profile. some camshaft just don't have torque below 5000rpm; unless all you do is straight road. otherwise mid-range torque is still very important. you can't just look at peak power
