I was wondering what is different between earlier and later TU engines. I know later ones were multi-point injection but apart from that nothing.
It got me thinking becuse my mate has had two 1.4 saxos. One was a X and the one he has now is a 51. I can keep up with him even though he should have more power and a lot less weight. By rights he should leave me.
Not only this but everyone I know who owns a car says they don't believe how fast it is for a 1.1. Some of them are genuinly shocked.

as far as i know saxo only use 1 type of 1.4 engine, that is the TU3JP4. 1 spec only, might use different fuel system but should be the same power.
in terms of speed i wouldn't be suprises.
There is load of reason affect bhp, for example, even for the same engine like 138gti, some gives very good figure on RR, some aren't.

A lot of my mates say my 1.1 is a hell of a lot faster than their old 1.2 puntos, fiestas, etc. It does have very good acceleration compared to theirs!?

Over the years i've always found the small TU petrol lumps like a good thrashing.
The wheel size also has an effect on acceleration / top speed, start going bigger / smaller & it will affect the overall gearing.

He can nearly keep up with my 1.4 to around 70mph ish.
The small TU lumps are nippy enough if driven correctly.

TU engines are very good proven in fact. I prefer the 1.6 16v to the 2.0 gti engine anyday of the week. it feels more free revving.
