Hi guys
I know you seen these symptoms before and I have gone through the forum and had a good read. But for me, it may be possibly something I did to start this problem.
2 days ago, I started having the dreaded engine mamangement lights flashing and engine just cutting off.I know this was a major issue in the past but coudn't find a single sepcific cause. So besides going through the process of changing coil, crank sensors, icv, is theer anything I can do to isolate what is casuing this.
A few days earlier, I had done a full service, used bosch plugs but felt it a bit to sluggish, so changed over to new peugeot plugs.added to this, I helped a mate boost start his car.Since then, every trip is a harrowing experience with the engine swithcing off anywhere and won't start.
Also, Ive seen Lee does the diagnostics, but is there anyone else closer to west london area OR DO I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERS AND LET THEM RIPO ME OFF?/ Please help
My intention was to renew the entire suspension, get the engine in tip top state and upgrade the alloys etc.I was planning to take the car with me whe I return to me home country, but my bad luck that I have this problem.
Appreciate any help please - ps, I have checked earth strap, tried a different coil, removed the battery overnight for a ecu reset etc..
Thanks

PS - Forgot to mention that I also changed the water pump pipe a few days earlier which required me to remove the thermostat housing. But I did ensure that all electricals were out the way and put back correctly.I try and do most of the work on the car myself to save costs but this problem I have now was apparently on watchdog, but no onwe mentions the outcome.

What age is the car?
Does it turn over?
Is the engine management light still flashing?
I'm in Peterborough on Sunday, so I am a bit closer then.

Hi lee
Thanks for the quick reply.
So, an example of my journey yesterday morning:
Starts fine in the morning. Its only after I had done maybe around 5-6 miles on my journey, did at start to happen.EM lights flash, engine cuts out. After that, won't start but swings.A few backfires sometimes when trying to start it.I had top wait around 20min, and then it started again with no probs.Only had about a mile to go before I reached destination.
On way back, again, after about 6 miles, lights EM light start flashing and engines stalls but doesnt cut out this time.I kept the revs really high.Did notice that it cuts out when changing down a gear or if you left the accelerator at slow speeds. Was on the M25 on Sunday, and didnt experience this. This morning, had my AC on all the time(read this somewhere), and did not stall/cutout.Will try tonight without the aircon.
Lee, Pterborough still a bit of a drive for me, but if this keeps happening, I'll probably take the hit and make my way to you.Do you have any idea/inclination of what this could be?

Update: ps car is 1999 T reg
Tonight, got stuck in traffic 3 times. Each time, I had to push the car off the road and then wait aroiund 20 35 mins, before it will start again. Also, noticed that the engine runs for approx 20-30mins before the EM lights starts flashing and engine cuts out.
Eventually made it home at 9:30pm - 3,5 hrs to cover 7 miles in total...really feel like burning this car now.
However, I think i can replicate this problem again, because if I leave it idling for around 30 mins, it eventually cuts out. It seems like something is getting hot, then engine cuts out I leave it to cool down and then I can start engine again.Once engine is hot again, it cuts out.
Any ideas what would cause this behavior or what part may be affected by the engine warming up.The temp guage sits at 90 and sometimes goes ever so slightly over 90.
As I mentioned previously, I did remove the thermostat housing unit to replace a leaking pipe but I'm sure I put everything back correctly and bled the system correctly as well. Please help !!

Sounds really similar to a problem I had a year or so ago, and it turned out to be my fuel sender unit.

Could be if cars had chokes fitted to them still. But they don't.

You need to get that fault code read, it'll help point us in the right direction. It doesn't require a dealership to do it either. Just ring a few local garages and see how much to check the fault codes.
