Might do but the ratios will be all wrong. 2nd gear will be good for about 80mph if fitted to a petrol engine!

I had a 1.1 106 for a brief spell. Got fed up at 70mph with the car revving at 3500rpm. So one evening i dropped the g/box and fitted a diesel box from a 1.4 TU diesel 106. didn't know if it was going to work but thought it would be worth a try as the ratios seemed ok from a bit of research i did.

It all mounted up fine, took it for a drive and was quite surprised. The gears were taller but not so much that it was impossible to drive (still was able to pull away with a car load Smile no problems) got to 5th gear and was happy to be driving along at 70mph at 2750rpm Smile .

Of course once you come to a hill the torque of the 1.1 isnt brilliant so obviously I had a change down but still i was happy.

Would be better on a 1.4 due to having a bit more oomph than the 1.1 i imagine.

Hope it helps

To be honest I'd be definately interested in this if it worked wish my 1.4 would stay at lower revs.

A friend has just bought a 1.4 so maybe tempted one weekend to swap it round. Would only take half a day to get the old out and the new in...

Found out that the newer diesel gearboxes from the 106s have a lower ratio 5th gear than the older ones. i.e. ph1 = old type / ph2 new type

Could always build your ideal MA gearbox & put your choice of ratios in.

Plenty to pick from over the years.
