That should just be a fuse then. You've just hit the +12v [perm live] with the earth.

Just check all the fuses properly

Fuse 4, 6 and 16 in the drivers fusebox would be the first points of call.

Give BBA a call tomorrow, they can test / repair BSI units & there repairs also come with a warranty.

Your looking a minimum of £400 if it has to go to a Peugeot main dealer for a new BSI Wink

Finger's crossed BBA can work there magic for you & save you a large repair bill.

there was a thread on here real recently where a member pulled a fuze when live and wiped the bsi and ecu. it gave simular effects to what your experiencing. cost over a grand to get it fixed!. always unplug electrics before you start pulling fuses etc Razz i hope its not that expensive for u though!

Did you tell him you suspected the BSI before he concluded it is the BSI?
I'm not under-estimating the RAC man's experience and knowledge but;

Before shelling-out the dosh get a multimeter and shut-down the BSI properly and disconect the battery, then
check for continuity (zero ohms reading) of each and every fuse in both compartments including and especialy
the manufacturers' large size fuses
. Sometimes they look OK to the eye but are infact blown which could be the issue.
Also make sure they are all in the correct position by refering to the appropriate fuse list for your vehicle.

just to let everyone no,the rac was due to take the car this morning,but i thought i would put the old stereo back in just to c what happend,and what do u know it started first time,im not sure whats happend or if there is an imobiliser tat reacts to the stereo but its all fine now,thank god Smile quick question will 17 inch alloys fit on a 206 without spacers?im looking at sum on ebay all it says is the size which is 205.45.17 i asked the seller and he said they should fit,just wanted to ask people who no what they are talking about first tho,thanks alot Smile

There are some VAN multiplex network wires to the back of the stereo that link it to the BSI & also the display.

But the car should work fine with the factory radio unplugged.

17" wheels can kill the MA gearbox.

15" are ideal, 16" are pushing it but ok if treated gently with the right size tyres on.

Bit of advice: On any car in the furture if you find pairs of wires twisted together leave them well alone as they are CAN wires Wink

That has shocked me. All multiplexed headunits run via the BSI, but they don't normally stop the car from working.

If your wanting a aftermarket headunit, then just get the headunit turned off in the BSI settings

i hadnt even heard of a bsi till last night s i dont no how to turn the headunit off,iv learnt my lesson anyway i think,im either gonna sell all my stereo stuff an leave the standard 1 in or get it installed at halfords or sumthing,i aint messing with it again,i was well devastated last night |: how cum 17,s kill the gearbox mrbsi?iv seen quiet a few with 17s on,15s dont look to good either on a 206 but ill take your advice and go with 16s i think

It's gotta be how it was installed, never heard of a aftermarket headunit making a car not start.

Could always try a fresh install with the battery off.

The MA gearbox is weak, and the extra weight from 17's can take its toll after time

If the ISO plugs are connected correctly with the adaptor if needed then the aftermarket stereo should be fine.

You will have to reboot the BSI or unplug then reconnect the multi function display to unfreeze it.

What size engine 206 is it?

Any petrol 1.6 or smaller & the 1.4 HDi use the MA gearbox, this was never designed for such large alloy wheels, fitting 17" on a MA box is like owning a hand grenade with the pin removed Laughing

Its normally the blown fuse by careless installation that causes the non start problem Laughing
