My dipped bulbs are working fine, so are the main bulbs. However, when I switch to the main beam, both dipped beams go off.
I've checked connections and changed fuses for both sides and still the same problem.
Can anyone suggest what the problem is and how I can fix it?

What type of headlights are fitted?

Did it leave the factory with crystals or have they been retrofitted?
Does the car have the correct headlamp stalk fitted as this needs to be changed as well when retrofitting crystals on a non plexed 206 like this?

I fitted them 4 years ago, and have a H4-H7 adaptor fitted (adaptor came with the relay). I never changed the stalk. The lights worked fine and so did the stalk from the point I changed them and it's only now that I've encountered the problem of the dipped beam going off when the mains are switched on.

if you have just fitted crystals they need a relay fitted also because frosted headlights are ment to do this  basically lol
edit: sounds like the relay in the adapters gone wrong

I should also add that the passenger side main beam bulb blew last week, hence how I came to changing the bulbs and noticing this problem.

maybe it was like this since 4 years ago? does the wiring adapter for the crystals have a relay wired into them (black cube) lol

lee and NorthantsBen are very knowledgable about headlight wiring adapters etc, hopefully one will input soon. if it was me though i would test that relay first because its the relays job to power the dipped lights when the main are activated.

Do you have the relay connected to the batt or another 12v source?
Or supply a pic of the wires if unsure?
It's not uncommon for relay to fail.

Replace the relay, might as well they are cheap, i had this problem a while ago in the same situation as you and the relay had failed, easy fix.

Get someone to operate the headlamps & listen for the relay clicking
You can unplug the relay & then short the 2 connections with a suitable bit of wire as a quick test OR swop the relay for a known working one.
You can on non plexed 206's change the 2 headlamp plugs & swop the headlamp switch instead of fitting the adaptor loom.

You are assuming the person doing the test is absolutely flawless at shorting the correct points in the rellay socket.
This is not recomended incase the coil contacts are shorted inadvertedly which could lead to problems.
Changing the rellay is the prefered test in this situation no?

The only problem it would cause is a blown fuse.
You would also have to be pretty clueless to short the wrong terminals out on the relay connector.
Also if the relay isnt at fault your gonna be out of pocket unless you happen to have spare relays laying around or know where to look on the car to borrow one from.
