Replacing crankshaft oil seal

Hi all just discovered ive got an oil leak coming from the crankshaft oil seal (cambelt/pulley end). Has anyone replaced one on a 206? Ive replaced one or two on other non car engines but have never done one on a 206. Just trying to get an idea of how hard it is and any things i need to watch out for when replacing it.

Any help or advice will be greatfully received

 


W reg, 1.4 GLX, Platinum Silver, Slowly getting there even if it does want to make me work hard for the privilege to drive it.

You'll need the timing belt off first then the bottom pulley. You should be able to pull the old on out if you butcher it enough. Then put the new one in after youve cleaned the area up.Make sure its seated properly aswell.Oh and drain the oil first!lol

And if it still leaks then its the inner crank seal thats gone which is a sump off job and a bottom end bearing strip down to get the crank out.

Do you know how you can tell if its the outer or inner seal or is it a case of replace the outer seal and hope it stops it. As for stripping the bottom end down thats not too much of a problem, just means working upside down Laughing .

to be honest if its leaking then its probably the inner seal. Saying that ive not done one on a pug before so it might only have the one seal. Pm Lee with your VIN and he should be able to look it up for you.

When you say the inner seal where is this located i thought there was only one oil seal at each end? Thanks i will pm him to see if he can shed any light on it.

I remember working on some old engines years back and they had an inner seal on the crank aswell as the flywheel end aswell. As said mate, a pug could be a single crank pulley seal,and after having a quick look on ebay it seems they are just one. Have you tried using some of this?

Its a temp fix but worked wonders on my old redtop as a short term fix.

Ah okay yeh will soon find out once it start taking it apart lol. I havnt tried using anything like that, think i will just replace the outer seal i can see and then see what happens, i need to replace the oil anyway as the head gasket failed and have just got it up and running and have yet to change the oil so its milky and mayonaisey under the rocker cover. Do you think the water in the oil could have caused the seal to fail?
