Has anyone changed the steel coolant pipe that runs along the back of the engine on the GTI? People have been giving me scare stories as to how difficult it is, and mine has split

You just need to remove the thermostat housing (and the battery and its box) and then pop the pipe out of the back of the water pump. It's a tight fit but be careful not to twist it so make sure the pipe is pulled out straight of both pump housing and thermostat housing.

Don't forget to buy three new rubber O ring seals.

i've just been out and looked, it has a hardpipe between the pump and flexihose but its not metal like that, more like a hard ABS type affair.

weird. only reason i didnt recognise it is because i havent even bothered with the lump as yet! lol
