Hello peeps,

I've never driven a car after a cambelt change as i've always sold on before needing one. But i got my car fully serviced and the cambelt, tensioner and water pump changed this week. A little bit painful on the pocket especially on a car with only just 50k on the clock, but its more the age of the belt i was worried about.

Anyways I noticed that after the car has warmed up there is a "warbling" noise coming from the belt side of the engine. Now everything was brand new when fitted and there is no grinding or dry bearing type noises, just this odd noise when at idle.

Is this normal just after a change? as everything is settling and relaxing.

Or should i be taking it back pronto? The chap who did the work is probably the best mechanic i've ever met and he has been working on cars for over 50years and builds his own from the ground up. He also owned a 206 cc, a 206 GTi 180 and a 206 Gran T, while his wife still has a 207 cc. So i'm 100% in his work, trouble is he is away all weekend so cannot just pop back and get him to have a listen.

True, if it is a mistake it going to be unusual and one of very few made no doubt. It may even be a fault part or such like. Was really hoping it would be normal though Sad Laughing

Right, he heard this noise too and it's not the cambelt. It's the aux belt where its has been disturbed and replaced. Where there are grooves in the belt and the old one went back on it's not sitting in the exact same position. He thinks it should settle but it i have any real concerns about it he said he pop a new one on to be sure. I'll see if he can do this next week and report back.

Its plain simple good engineering practice to also renew the aux belt when replacing the timing belt Rolling Eyes

I know, but he's the kinda of guy how will replace it if it's needed, the belt isn't even a year old. Partly my fault for telling him it was nearly new.

It was needed though Wink

Sounds like someone needs the hearing testing if they hand a car back with a warbling noise that wasnt there before they worked on it.

@Davels
Hello mate
Did you eventually manage to sort out the uneven/rough idling problems. What was causing it. I remember you changed almost all of the sensors on that motor?

i've known a warbling noise to be an over-tensioned timing belt, not saying yours is but just incase the aux belt doesn't sort it Smile
If in doubt, drop a cog and put your foot down Smile
