Can anyone advise on the benefits of replacing the standard air filter with a K&N filter on a GTi? This would be just the paper filter not an entire new filter box. i.e. no insurance changes required.

Better airflow, less resistant than standard
Meaning better throttle response and possibley a gain of 1bhp maximum

Plus it's reusable, you just clean it out & re-oil rather than replacing it every few thousand miles.

When you say re-oil, does that mean it has to be oiled initially?

No from the box it's ready to be dropped in.

i have a BMC panel. felt alot better imo, probably because i had a open cone getting tons of heat soak.
but as said will give a better less restrictive air flow

I have one in mine. Throttle response is a bit better. But I put it in mainly because it's reusable with better air flow.
