Hi all, about a month ago I started to hear noises coming from the rear left side of my 206 sw they only seemed to happen at low speed going over pot holes or speed humps, they were sort of a tinny/metally sound, a clunking noise. At first I thought it was the spare wheel bracket and the jack inside the spare wheel so I removed both wheel and bracket but the noise continued, I had a look at the exhust pipe which had not long been fitted and that seemed secure, the bushes also looked fine, I took it to the garage yesterday and he lifted the car on the ramp and took a look, he also said everything seemed ok apart from being able to move the left drivers side wheel from side to side, so I took him round in the car to hear the noise and as soon as he heard it he told me the rear axle was going and would need replacing. I went to the local peugeot breakers and they quoted £200 for an axle plus removal, is this a good price? I would also have to use the garage to do the job but they did not quote me a price. This may seem a daft question but am I still ok to drive the car like this? is it safe? the guy at the garage said I would be ok but Im not so sure. I also dont know wether to get a second hand axle and maybe have the same problem within a year or so or just go for a new one ( very expensive ). Thanks for help.

you will fail mot if there is play in the trailing arm.

the worse bit is because your is an SW, the axle is same as 180gti, so it pretty rare.

you can't compare the price of a proper rebuild axle to a scrappy axle.

www.sspengineering.co.uk/

this is what you need.

play in rear trailing arm is safe? i don't think so....althought compare to just using 1 wheel bolts per wheels this is a lot safer .....

get this fixed soon or things will get worse

Thanks for your reply's, I have had a close look at this now and have noticed the wheel is starting to move back towards the back of the wheel arch, I dont think there is long left before it goes completely. We were going out for a trip tomorrow but I will have to cancel that now just cant risk it..
