hi there..

i drive a 206gti and my car's steering just loves to go right or left or whatever when im braking at a stop light. the braking aint soft like im transporting fragiles.. but rather a little harder than usual. the kind where you drive at the speed limit but got caught by the sudden change of light.

it only turns at the last moment when the car is about to come to a stop. like the last 5+ meters.

whats up with my car? i never got into any accident cause i hold the wheel tighter when stopping.

i did suspect it might be abs. but scouring the forum threw up other possibilities about my brakes itself. at the last servicing the guy said i should change my brakes in the next servicing, but my wheels were turning on moderate braking for the last 6 months. i forgot to mention it that time, but i just drive my car slower now.

going back to abs.
i opened up my engine to find a connector plug isolated right in the middle, above the radiator.

it was kinda like maroon/magenta colored i think. couldnt find any sockets near there to plug 'back-in'. the plug head is quite similar to the ones connecting the indicator lights (py21w).

the abs dont light up btw. it lights upon ignition and goes off.

*will grab a picture of that lonely plug later*

That means the ABS system should be working correctly.

GTI do suffer from cracked / broken ABS rings on the driveshafts, normally get the warning light on & the brake pedal pulsing like made though.

binding brake on one side?? possible cause sticking caliper slides, pads seized in carrier etc basically have them inspected as in the uk the balance of a cars brakes are tested on an MOT test and the front ones must not exceed 25% difference or what you have described can happen!!
If in doubt, drop a cog and put your foot down Smile
