Ok so went to do my MOT today thinking it would pass but failed on 10 seperate points!! Sad

1. Offside registration plate lamp not working
2. Offside headlamp aim too high
3. Offside front constant velocity joint gaiter insecurely mounted to its housing
4. Nearside balljoint
5. Offside balljoint
6. Nearside rear shock absorber has an excessively worn rubber bush
7. Rear brake load sensing valve linkage seized
8. Front (pipe) exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases
9. Exhaust emmissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive
10. Exhaust emmissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

Most of it seems quite simple to do but can anyone tell me whats involved and how much the constant velocity gaiter, the rubber bush on the shock and the rear brake valve are likely to cost to fix?

W reg 1.4 lx in diablo red. lowered and with 17 inch konig alloys

CV Gaiter means removal of Driveshaft IIRC.
New Shock.
and lots of WD40 on brake valve.

No way to fix the old shock? Its not a standard one otherwise I wouldn't bother fixing would just buy a new one

How long's the rear shocks been on? Rear shock bush is quite common, can be caused by fitting issues, i.e. when the mechanic was fitting them, he tightened up the bolts all the way before putting he car on the floor. It causes the bush to rotate in its mounting, its a common issue on most cars with torsion bar suspension.

you could try and sent the shocker back to the company you got it from they should be able replace the worn bush i had the same problem on my avo rear shocker

its been on for about 2 and a half years now so its defo out of warrenty

You can get a split CV boot kit which you glue along a tongue and groove seam. Saves taking the driveshaft out. I've used them before and never had a problem with them.

7. Rear brake load sensing valve linkage seized


Just got similar on this today, except mine had fallen off. Was told it was a spring like thing on the rear brake, see if you can unseize it. If not I was told you won't be able to buy one brand new so you would have to buy the whole valve, very expensive.

its just insecure, probably the plastic ones just put a new securing strap round it or for simplicity a cable tie Smile
