Hiya,
I put in a tenner yesterday and it's gone already, I've done 27 miles, I put it into an MPG calculator and it came out at 16mpg. Better than the 12mpg I had a few weeks ago.
I drive economically, like a chauffeur, I don't accelerate hard and change into gear when I can, never have the a/c on.
A couple of months ago I had a problem with the temperature sensor, it kept just fluctuating to overheating, then down to normal, overheating, normal, and this was in the space of minutes, I watched the needle go up and down lol. so I posted here and it was suggested my temperature sensor was faulty, it stopped doing it so I didn't bother replacing it.
I think I read somewhere that this helps the engine regulate something like fuel or some other fluid. Do you think I should replace it and see if that helps my MPG? because at this rate I can't afford to run the thing. It's a little 1.4. It was serviced just last September, the air filter seems really dirty though, given it a shake and stuff, not much difference - would buying a new air filter help the mpg any?
p.s. this isn't a whingey thread, if there's nothing wrong with it i'll have to figure out another way of making it more econonononmical

The gauge is pretty s**te. Fill her up do say 50 miles and then fill her back up from there. See what the cost is to fill back up. Gives an accurate reading

Do you mean the MPG calculator in the car? 
Mine doesn't have that
I had to calculate it using the amount of fuel I've used and the miles I've done using a calculator online

27 miles on a tenner is s**te, gotta be summit up with that? I got a 1.4 GLX i filled up £58 and got 465 miles out of it!!!

No. No electronics. All old school maths.
1. Go put fuel in your car, to the brim. (67quid ish from empty)
2. Set your odometer to 0
3. Fill up when that hits 50
4. Maths time: number of miles (50) divided by amount put in 2nd time (litres) = mpL ... Times that by 4.56 to get a rough figure of MPG.

Where is most of your driving? Urban? Rural? Motorway?
You say you drive like a chauffer... Are you under revving? I.e changing gear too early? This is as 'bad' as over revving.
Exhaust blowing? This can cause a slight decrease... Although not quite half of it ...
You sure the fuel lines are all intact? No leaks? I have never heard of 16mpg on a 206 especially on a 1.4. Be cheaper buying a 180.

Yes changing the air filter will definitely make a difference.
Not a mass difference though as it's not enough to drag it down to them poor figures on its own but certainly helps to keep things balanced for the engine.
It's also worth checking the air intake on for the air filter to make sure there are no obstructions like leaves etc blocking it up.
I agree with the previous posters about filling the tank then working out the mileage by filling it after 50 miles.
That's the way I work mine out as it's very accurate, unlike the Peugeot fuel gauages!

Most of my driving is urban/rural, I don't think I change gear too early because the car doesn't struggle or judder, and my exhaust is blowing slightly, I'm in the process of getting that repaired and I don't think the fuel's leaking, I can't see any on the floor.
