Me and another memeber on here (Ivor) have the same cars and we now also share the same problem...

When I start mine for a few seconds, maybe a few minutes I get a squeaking noise. Ivor gets his when the cars idle.

It sounds like a belt squeaking or something!?

Anyone know what that is as we haven't got a clue..ha!

Thanks Smile

It most probably is a belt!

Either Cambelt or the Aux belt! Whats your mileage? Have you had these changed recently?

Aux belt is also called an alternator belt, basically it charges the battery and stuff!! (Im not an expert)

The Squeaking noise could be a number of things... Water on the belt, incorrect tightness etc

best to have someone with some knowledge to have a look for you! If its due a cambelt change, dont hesitate to do it! Could lead to £1000's of damage rather then £100's!! Best to shop around for a better price! Change the water pump at the same time! And you could go and have a full service while your there!

for a test, take the aux belt off, start the car and if there is no squeak then you know its the aux belt and not the cambelt. thats wat i did

Ancillary / Auxiliary / Drive / Fan belt - what ever you wanna call it - needs changing or tightening up.

Is it worse in damp/wet?

Yes! I think one day it was raining when I left work and it went on a bit longer than it usually does.

I had this problem on another car and sprayed some WD40 on the belt. This stopped it for a few seconds. Although not a fix it helped diagnose where the problem lay!
