Sorry to say lads but I was quite hopeful when I first bought my gti but I must say the experience is getting worse and worse I bought the car and was told it needed a droplink so I replaced both then bought coilovers which are awesome may I add but then Iv found out the sills are rotten both sides front to back there's a constant knocking which was meant to be the droplink but is still there, heatshield rattle which I can't source where from will it ever end

sorry to hear about your bad times what does your heatshield rattle sound like, ive got a vibrating, shakey rattle and cant cant source what it is, its only when the engines cold though (but its not the actual engine) it could be the heatshield but like you im not sure how to look/check?

lol that sucks, my rattle only happens on the first 15 mins of the day.
i wake up, drive the car and there's this stupidly loud rattle from the engine bay (sounds as if its behind the speedo) for about 15 mins then it dissapears. then i can park the car for hours and hours untill its fully cool and drive it that night, and there's no rattle.
then the next morning i wake up and drive the car and rattles back for 15 mins. garage cant find it, i cant find it, ive never had a rattle like it lol...
it only happens going over bumps and happens irrespective of engine revs/ gear etc

dont metal expand a little when hot?
look in the areas where metal heats up, BUT only do this when car hasnt been used for the night, just find anything that moves slightly and stop it moving

Must be the worst 206 ever if both sills are rotten.
Did you not change the top mount bearings when the coilovers were fitted?

i had a vibrating noise that i fort was a heat sheild on my gti when i got it and it was the exhaust manifold. a very common problem on the early gti,s. where the four pipes come out the engine and then go into one into the exhaust is where needs welding togehter. the spot welding they do on it in the factory is s**t and goes really quick. there is a link somewhere with a pic i will try and find it and put it up.
