Bought the car around 2 weeks ago, low mileage early 2001 206 2.0 140bhp gti. Needed a few little bit doing.

I replaced the clock display as the pixels had gone. Removed the instrument cluster as the speedo didnt work and cleaned the contacts on the rear lights bulb holders.

Now it seems to have developed a fault. When I get in the car briefly I hear a fast clicking noise. If I try to use the indicators I get the fast clicking noise it makes when a bulb is out but no lights flashing on the dash and the lights aren't flashing on the outside of the car. Also if I press the hazard light switch it makes the normal slow clicking noise but again no lights on the display or the outside of the car The front wiper also doesnt work but the jet for it does and the rear wiper works. Front lights work although the light on the dash for it works and sometimes doesn't.

Here's the weird part, occasionalyy the indicators and the wiper just work fine. I was in the car before, none of them would work and then all of a sudden they both just worked perfectly like whatever is at fault is linkied to the 2 systems

I have disconnected the rear lights but still get the fault, disconected the clock display, still get the fault, checked the plugs on the back of the instrument cluster, checked fuses. This is really stressing me out and I haven't got a great deal of money to get it fixed.

Could it be as simple as a relay or is it odds on the com2000 is faulty and needs replacing. Which fuses should I be checking and have I missed anything. I tried leaving the battery off overnight and this didn't work either.

I have the stereo stalk next to my steering wheel also if this has any bearing on the com unit.

My stereo stalk is round and thin, is this the multiplexed version or non plexed?

Can I still remove whatever unit it is and try and find the bad contacts and clean them or whatever is causing the fault? Thanks for the reply

You can take the stalks apart to clean / regrease them BUT be warned there are little springs & rollers etc in there that like to jump out, so be carefull when you take it apart.

I would be also looking at your BSI unit, the indicator relays can fail as they age on these non plexed 206's, they can be replaced if you are brave with a soldering iron.

WARNING: If you stuff the BSI unit up you will have to replace it, no BSI = dead car!

Does the factory alarm system work?

Deadlock the car with the remote fob to arm the alarm & then set it of by unlocking the door manualy with the key barrel & opening the door, siren should sound & the hazard lights should flash.

Right I just stripped it all down. Contacts looked fine on the window wiper stalk. Bit of grease on them. When I stripped down the indicator stalk I noticed a metal spring loaded nipple which activated the indicators, this seems to have been worn down with age and use. Put it all back together and it still doesn't work.

Is the bsi unit under the steering wheel near the fuses, are the relays mounted to it?

I just can't understand how the fault links the front wiper and the indicators, do they both use the same relay?

Here are some pictures of the contacts etc:-

Any help to resolve this problem is much appreciated guys I need it sorted asap

The BSI unit is the body computer that lives behind the flap to the right of the drivers knee, the indicator relays are soldered on to the printed cricuit board Wink

Just had an interesting read about someone with a similar problem. He had a citroen which had a bsi system, had same fault as mine. Took 3 months to find the fault at dealers. The bsi unit would trip out and go into safe mode (no signals, wipers, blowers) My blowers work still however. Anyway when the car was left standing the BSi unit would sense remote locking signals, view them as rogue and trip out. It was fixed by setting the bsi to reflect remote locking signals. My next door neighbour has a 2001 citroen picasso parked less than 10ft away from my 2001 206.

Maybe a coincedence as the 1st time the fault appeared I went to my mates in the car half a mile away to show him and half an hour later the fault ceased and the indicators and wiper returned to normal function.

It's now parked on his drive so fingers crossed I'll check it tomoz. Maybe I'm clutching at straws lmao. If it doesn't work I think I'll reset the BSi unit and if that doesn't work I'll sell her cheap for someone else to get a bargain requiring a bit of work. Shame too she's a lovely little motor with low mileage.

Here is the thread I got the info from :-

Its a factory radio with a clarion cd changer in the boot. Its currently needs the code putting in as the battery has been taken off.

**UPDATE**

Tried starting the car which is parked up at my friends, still the fault. Haven't tried a BSI reset yet as I have been busy. Going to have the car put on a diagnostics tommorrow and see what error codes it brings up.
