So I spent the weekend in Luton, at a friends engagement party, but unfortunately during the festivities this happened
All this for a broken seat mechanism, the reclining part of the seat bust when my friend couldn't figure out how to get out of the back seat so he wrenched the lever, breaking the mechanism. So the back part of the seat won't lock in place.
The AA came out and had a look at it (because thankfully my girlfriend has AA cover that covers her as a passenger) I was happy to drive it back to Sheffield but one of my friends who was at the party works as a police women and she told me that if I got pulled over the vehicle would be classed a "unsafe" they would seize it and charge me storage. So I opted to get it recovered to Sheffield until I can source a new seat or some cheap GTi seats to replace the lot.
On the plus side, I didn't risk any speeding tickets on the way back up and I saved the fuel not having to drive back up from Luton.
Still going to have to buy a new seat

Those seat mechanisms are bloody annoying. Really shoddy engineering, even for the French.

Tell me about it, my girlfriend keeps laughing at me because her ST has 2 separate levers, one to move the seat backwards and one to get into the back seat

This has nearly happened to me so many times
I also hate it when people just push the lever without supporting the seat letting it fly forward with a big gear grinding noise
One time these girls wrenched the seat back without pressing the lever at all (they were big girls, and an evening to forget say no more), how the chair is still fine I don't know
Hope you get it sorted ok mate

I always move the seat for people now, since there's a handle on the driver's side and I know the right technique lol

I do too, but in this circumstance they beat me to the door as they weren't going to let me escape very easily.. i should have known the mechanism would have been too complicated really as they spent the outing asking me what IQ meant, who barak obama was.. the last time i meet people through college friends lol

Same! why is it that nobody, ever, can figure out how to move the seats and it doesn't matter how many time you scream it at their face!

Tell us about the police-woman girl.
I always shriek with fire coming out of my eyes if someone tries
to touch any mechanism on the seats.

Thanks Seabrook but its the driver seat thats broken, with a lot of help from my dad (e.g he did it) we managed to bend the mechanism round 180 degrees to what it should be, thus the seat now functions, but we had to cut the spring down a little to get the backwards/forwards lever to work again, so its functional temporarily, but long term its going to be a new seat.
All I can say is either
f*****g Friends
or
f*****g French
