the phase changed so you're looking at things like phase two boot strip, phase two rear lights, alloys changed, head rests on seats went from solid to having a hole in them - others will tell you more specifics Smile

different engine codes, so its something to do with timing or tuning.
the 138bhp are lower emissions but more torque

I have a late 54 plate Gti, which has esp. Not many have that! Also the interior changed at some point, deeper front bucket seats. Mine had no spoiler though?!

Only GTi 180s have spoilers as standard, apart from 206's with the factory-fitted SP kit fitted

Between 1999 and 2003 the only mechanical changes were the move from RFR coded cars to RFN which meant 2 x lambda sensors were fitted. The exhaust systems became a 2 piece design rather than a cat, mid and rear section. I think the earlier GTi's up to 2000 came with thicker front ARB's too.

Front brake discs became thicker in early 2001.

Multiplexing was introduced on October 2001. So anything 51 plate onwards was multiplexed.

Sometime in 2004 traction control was added meaning they came with a motorised throttle body.

2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

The seats came with very slightly deeper wings in late 2000 when side airbags came as standard. Rear head rests came around then too.

No SP parts were factory fit. They were all dealer fit options.

I'm I right in thinking the 2xlamda sensor cars are the lower powered models? I thought the earlier 2.0 GTi lumps had 2 and were actually only 134bhp and the later single lamda were 137-138.

No.

Later cars have 2 x lambdas. Which car has more power I have no idea. I believe RFN coded cars might actually be 136bhp and the early ones 137/138bhp.
