So I heard a few people on here talking about getting there ECU firmware updated when trying to find faults. But my question is will an update to the latest firmware really make that much difference?
Also I'm assuming its a dealer only job and I was wondering if anyone has an idea on how much it'll cost. And is the BSI firmware updated at the same time or is this extra?

Can lee not do firmware updates? it has to be done with peugeot planet, you will then have stuff like DLR and wiper coming on in reverse if you want

No aftermarket place will do firm wire updates. It's dealer only.
It's not worth the risk of corruption of the EEPROM's. If it does corrupt, then I'm like £500 out of pocket.
I'll enable and disable features, but not update.

That is fair enough, it was just suggested I update if not already done so to smooth out any remaining rough idle issues after the tappet change.
Lee, in your opinion is it worth getting done at a dealer, surely if they corrupt the EEPROM they would have to replace? I can certainly understand you not wanting that risk. Not cheap!

People only generally get the BSI updated as the older versions tend to be a bit buggy in their software.
I can't see why you'd need the Engine ECU updating after changing the tappets :/
Yeah if they corrupt it, then yeah they'd either just replace the whole ECU or take the ECU out remove the eeprom and recode it with something like x-prog. I don't know hexdecimal binary so I can't reprogram them
I'd be tempted to leave it, because I bet its going to cost about £100

Cheers Lee, I'll be leaving it I think. I may look at a BSI update later but unless that adds options that can be switched on like autolocking etc there isn't any point.
The ECU update was suggested by a pug tech at a dealership believe it or not They also said the tappets aren't a known problem. So I was dubious from the start.
But the update was suggested before the tappet work not after to see it that made a difference. But at that point I was 99% sure the they were FUBAR anyway.

Depends on the age of 2.0 lump
The early ones did suffer for a problem.

Seems to be more common on CC's oddly. I know at least 9 other CC 2.0 owners who all had similar idle and misfire problems all attributed to tappets. Mines a 2002 model so not the earliest or the latest of the 2.0 lumps

Still falls within the technical service bulliten PSA Peugeot / Citroen sent out
Up to April 2003 EW10 engine production are the lumps affected.
New hydraulic tappet part number is 0942 48

If you have some kind of warranty that will cover it, go for it
I had it done to fix up some start up and idle issues
I don't know how much it would cost without warranty though, ring up a dealer
