I'm wondering if its new car time
Car has just come home on the back of a low-loader after a probable head-gasket failure. High temperature, STOP light on, coolant bottle full of oil (looks like runny marmite).
By itself this might not be enough to kill it, but it also needs a new rear axle and the front drop links replacing. I'm thinking its getting to the point where its going to cost more to fix than its worth.
Car is a standard (beyond a couple of options) 2002 1.4LX with 126,000 miles on the clock - I'm thinking its not worth spending a lot on fixing it.
So opinions: Worth resurecting? Or time to drive it to the car supermarket around the corner before it stops completely and I have to pay someone to take it away?
P.S. Anyone want to buy a set of week old brake disks Wish I'd waited a bit longer before sorting those out

Personally don't think it is, you might get £800/£900 if you are lucky afer everything is fixed and it's probably going to cost around that to fix it

I'm afraid it sounds like it's on it's last legs, it all depends on how big your wallet is really, if its gonna cost you the same to fix it as buying another car then it's not worth it

Head gasket is about £50 bolts are around £10. Rear axle is £100 if it's a drum axle, £150 if it's discs. Drop links are like a tenner each?
£250 or so I can imagine at most.

Exactly, none of this is stuff I'd attempt myself, so parts only prices isn't really the true cost. As for a 100 quid axle, I've had one salvaged axle already, which just came with its own problems, so wouldn't consider anything less than a properly refurbed one. Plexed ABS drum axles are also like trying to find rocking horse droppings. Took forever to locate a suitable one last time.

isnt worth it imo mate, the little 1.4 has too many miles, being realistic, the repairs will be a lot more then parts alone and it will be worth virtually nothing when fixed. also there's no guarentee it wont fail on emissions etc in the comming years, id rather put the cash towards a new car

Stick it up on Ebay as spares or repairs with a reserve of what its worth as scrap value & a mechanic will soon snap it up

go to a car supermarket? you might as well go into a gay bar and bend over. If you can find a decent local garage you might not get a bad deal if you get a good offer for your car. Failing that ebay it as spares or repair.
