Hi all,
Basically my speedo is showing inaccurate readings. Sometimes 10 when im doing 70 etc and it seems like the needle is jerking.
I have not tried anything as of yet and wanted your advice.
Its a 206 1.4 Y reg.

Could be the control pinion on the gearbox unit. If the teeth have stripped or worn on this, then it doesn't spin at the correct speed in relation to the gearbox tachometer screw.
I've had one of these go before on another car and the speedo fluctuated that much, some times I could be at a crawl and it would shoot to 140mph, other times I could be doing a reasonable speed and the speedo would hardly show a reading..
Check the wiring to the sender unit on the gearbox, it may have got wet or take the unit out completely and give it a clean and a check over. It should only be held in with one bolt, bit of a wiggle and twist and should come out fairly easily.
Out of interest, is your gearbox oil level ok? If it is low, it may have caused the wearing of the gear.

mine does this tempermentally as well, if you stop and turn the key on, off, on, off etc the needle will eventually go back to zero, itll then be fine for months on end!

Taken speedo out and took clips of both wires off and then put it back in. Speedo problem still there and mileage is now blank: :S
