Hi everyone! This engine cutting-out problem is a lot more common than Peugeot would ever have you believe. I’ve been suffering form it for over a year now without resolution. So, we need to get as many accounts of this problem together, as it would be good evidence to go to Peugeot UK or any dealer to try and get this problem sorted.
The post below is my personal account and my details. Let’s get the ball rolling!

My Peugeot 206 Engine cuts out
Post by louise599 on jun, 07, 2011, 15:15pm
I have a 206 look 53 plate and at random intervals while driving the rev needle will plummet during a gear change, usually 3rd to 2nd. At which point the engine management lights on the dash will all illuminate prior to the engine cutting out. I now consider my car dangerous to drive as I narrowly avoided an accident the other day when my car cut out while trying to perform an emergency-avoiding manoeuvre. My car can also suffers from erratic revs while at idle, which can also lead to it cutting out in a similar manner while I’m stationary at traffic lights. Not conducive to a quick get away!
So far my car has been back to my dealer twice to fix the problem, all of which have been unsuccessful as the problem reappears within days of me taking the car back. So far peugeot dealers have not found any fault but as this fault was on watchdog in 2004 they let slip that it could be something with the ECU MAPPING, each time I take the car back to the dealer the ECU shows no indication of any fault. However, this appears to be fairly common with other people who have this problem. it would seem that wherever they are changing or updating the ECU they are using the same software (the ECU programme with the fault).
To be fair to my dealer though, they have been very helpful and attentive but are just as puzzled as I am as to the reason for my problematic Pug.
If anyone has a successful resolution to this problem please let us know. In the meantime, I’m going to continue to press for a resolution with my dealer and Peugeot Customer Relations department.
If I get it sorted Ill let you all know - Cheers!
please post your problems so we can get this to peugeot and beat them with this problem!!
This particular fault was featured on watchdog in 2004 and they make a verbal point with watchdog that they would check over the cars with faults free of charge, so lets all get our posts up and get this on watchdog again!!!
Dont let them beat us!!!

So, you narrowly avoided an accident 8 years ago because the car is dangerous, and it's been incredibly unreliable yet you still have it 8 years later?

Car was bought in 2008!! had it for 3 years and the last year and a half its been cutting out on me, losing all power including steering and brakes only thing i can do is try and start the engine again to get brakes and steering back or worse case scenario pull the handbrake to stop!! (not reccomended at 40mph!!) there are many forums on the net about this particular fault and in 2004 they managed to get the issue on watchdog!! as that was back in 2004 i need new posts to enable me to get our problems on watchdog!!! please post similar problems and what you have had done and where (i.e. local garage or dealership) thanks again guys will keep you posted on my outcome with the dealers (currently an ongoing fight to get them to change ECU programme for free)
Best regards

Is this for real????? I cant see Peugeot doing anything with it being 8 years and all that. Have you spoken to a dealer or even Peugeot UK about this.......
I very much doubt Watchdog would do anything as well

im not driving the car anymore since the last time. i almost took out a pedestrian at a crossing due to loss of brakes and steering!!! refuse to drive it due to the cut outs. waiting for peugeots response to free change of ECU programme or coil pack, spark plugs. these could all be factors but the point is there are too many of these dangerous cars out there and we need peugeot to sort it out once and for all!!!
please only post your problems!!!!
this page will go to watchdog!!!

Have you done any research on this.......Do you know for sure that there is others out there with this problem? Could this problem be only with yours?
I can not recall anyone having the same sort of issue on here.
Is this issue related to a certain engine size? Is it Petrol or Desiel?

Pass on the blame why don't you.
Cars break from time to time.
If one garage can't find a fault with it take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion.
I doubt Peugeot UK or Watchdog will take any interest. I think you're just looking for an excuse not to pay for it yourself.

They rang me about 2 years ago about this. Gave them all details of this site (we had a massive thread on the cut out problem on the old info) but they never got back to me.

That's the old version of this forum from 7 years ago.
It's most likely the battery earth strap on the gearbox, or the ICV as mentioned.
