Are the HDI GTIs any good as iv seen one for sale and really am thinking about getting it.

No, run a mile.
The 1.6 HDI is the worse engine Peugeot ever fitted in the 206.
If you want a GTI buy either of the petrol versions.
If you want a diesel buy a 2.0 HDI

remove the FAP and remap it then it would be better but the DMflywheel is still a problem

So is the 11 hours labour to replace the clutch
Wouldnt touch one of these with a barge pole.

Removing the DPF is cheap enough. Then just change to a SMF when the clutch is knackered at about 80k.

I've owned a 1.6 HDI GTI for coming up to 4 1/2 years. Engines been fine and consistently returned 55-56 mpg for me (extra-urban). £95 annual car tax and lowish insurance as well.
Now the bad bit: I've had the clutch replaced at a cost of £628
I wouldn't recommend going for this car if you do mostly short journeys (knackers the particulate filter). I mostly use it for my 30 mile round trip to work.
Servicing needs to be spot on as well to avoid turbo troubles.

Oil needs to be spot on, 5w30 fully synthetic EVERY time

heard lots of horror stories and done a lot of expensive work on these in the garage i work at
not the best engine in the world to say the least
as said if you want a gti buy a petrol one if you want a diesel buy a 2.0 hdi sport
