Hi All,

This is my first post so please be gentle. I have a 206 1.1 W reg and yesterday I noticed the speedometer seemed not to be working correctly (it was saying 20mph but I thought I was going faster).

Today this was confirmed when I saw the dial reach 30 and then in a second drop to 20 and then again 10mph (without a reduction in speed).

I have read a lot online and there are many suggestions as to the problem. So what should I look at first, preferably cheap as I am not spending £100s on it. Is the speed sensor a good place to start?

Thanks
Gary

open the door to the car and start driving around 5-10 mph if the interior light starts blinking and making a noise then your speed sensor works

Hi thanks for the reply. I did see this yesterday on another post and tried it, and the light started blinking and the car beeping.

It would seem the sensor is ok, and I think this is probably true because it does actually follow the speed. It goes up and down until it reaches about 30mph and then falls.

I think this must be the dial itself as it seems to be slipping at 30 mph which makes sense as this is at 09:00 on a click or 270o on a circle at a right angle.

I have a video which I will upload shortly showing the problem.

So I will have to take the cluster out, is it possible that the pin may just be loose or will I need to get a new cluster? If I do what is the procedure as I assume this will change the mileage on the car.

Thanks
Gary

Hi all,

So here is the video (filmed by my wife). As you can see it drops even though I am not using the brakes. I do use them at the very end, but just before that you will see it drop from 30mph do 20mph in a second, and then I am not using the brakes.

I dont know if you have a way of uploading videos so I put it on rapidshare rapidshare.com/files/3...6-1812.3GP

Also as a note the model number of the cluster is T1/13ME8-JA does anybody know how I go about removing this (if it is actually the problem).

Thanks
Gary

Another update. I just removed the cluster to take a look and it looks like the speedo dial has gone, when I move it with my finger it keeps clicking back as if there is a spring resistance or something (but not all the time and not to 0mph just anywhere on the dial).

So it would seem this is the problem, I assume the only way to fix it is a new cluster?

However on another note when I plugged it back in everything is working however the backlight on the mileage, the lights themselves and the light on indicator is now very very dim and I can hardly make out the mileage. The other things (indicator, hand brake, airbag etc..) still have full brightness. Any idea on this.

For my previous post it seems that it is simply the bulb that has gone so no worry there. However when looking at it I did notice that there were no bulbs at all in several of the spaces (such as seatbelt, open door etc...).

Is this because there is not capacity for them to work on my model or is it because they went and were not replaced (i believe if they go and are ;left in it is an mot failure but if removed it is not).

Also where can I get some of these bulbs from? I cant find a name for them, the nearest I have is B8.5D
