No It was bought for a 1.1 preplexed but it turned out it was not the ECU but the guy still has it.
Would re-mapping it fix it?

So sending the ECU in for repair is my only option really.

Unless you buy a ECU, BSI and get the transponder in the key.
You should get one for £100 or less.
I paid £60 for a GTI one.

I might try a french scrap yard near me and see if i can get those. Any idea how much an ECU repair is? I have been looking online but I have not found one yet that actually says how much it is. The electrician who has my car said he could send it off but it would cost £70 just to test it.

I will ring around some scrap yards then and fit the job lot myself. I am guessing the repair work is not cheap ether so I might as well. I am not going to pay £70-£100 for some to then say they need another £100 or more.
As far as the donor car is concerned, it needs to be plexed and the same engine size? Anything else like the same engine variant (HFX for example)?

Yeah needs to be the same electrical system, you need the BSI, ECU and Transponder. Ideally try and get the VIN number too for future reference so you can get the security codes and stuff.

Are you refering to plexed/pre-plexed?

yeah needs to be what your car is.
Yeah it should all just plug and play and fire up if you swap it all
KFW engine has a Sagem S 2000 ECU with 3 plugs
KFX engine has a Bosch Motonic MP7.3 ECU with a single plug
Non plexed KFX has a Magnetti Marell 1 AP ECU with a single plug

Thought I read you had a 1.4. They are 1.4 engine codes
HFX = 2000-2009 = Magneti Marelli 4.8P = 3 plugs

No worries mate. Thought I read in another topic you have a 1.4 8v thats why I gave them codes.
I'm the same, only get topic notifications for some threads and not others.

I didn't get any for a long time but then I started getting them again. But its stopped again now. I must have 25bhp at best at the moment, but then you get to a hill; I think it has about 1nm of torque. Hopefully that will change soon. I was hoping to get a 1.6 from a guy off here but he has not been online for a while, it might have gone already.
