ok just got some challenger alloys (the ones that look like vortexes) for 175, which I was pretty chuffed about, lots of tread left on the tyres and only a few scratches
problem is, when fitting, I fit the front right one fine, then on the rear right one I couldn't get it on, the arch lining had a slight bulge in it that seemed to stop it from lining up, I haven't tried taking the arch lining out yet as the screw head has been rounded our so I'll have to hacksaw it off which I'll do tomorrow, just wondered if anyone else has had this problem before and if taking the arch lining out solved it.
also one of the bolts holding the front left wheel in seems well and truly stuck, I've snapped 2 things trying to take it out. any ideas of how to solve this? didn't know if spraying wd 40 or something like that on it would help at all?

Did you have problems with taking your wheel off? As the wheel diameter should be the same?
Also, you could jack the car up more so that you put the wheel on the hub under the wheel arch then lower it if you see what I mean?

What size tyres are on them? They should be a straight swap. I think the bulge is the fuel filter.
The tyres should be 205/45/r17. Anything like a 255/45 would be too big.

I just had 15 inch alloys on before so these are considerably bigger,
yeah I tried jacking it up a bit higher but that seemed to be as far as it'd go to make a difference/the drum just moved relative to it from then on. guess I'll just have to try taking the arch lining off tomorrow then.
Did you never have that problem?
Otherwise I was thinking could it be that I need low profile tyres on them?

if they use 307 stock fittment then you probably need new tyres!

the tyre size should be that the total diameter of the wheel+tyre is the same as the wheel/tyre that is coming off. This will not only possibly help fitment issues, but it'll ensure your speedo reads accurately.
It's amazing how much your speedo could be out by....

could well be mate as the speedo is calibrated against a specific total wheel diameter.
To be fair though your speedo is only out by 2mph at 70 mph, at 30mph it'll be nearly 1mph out. Just bear it in mind when you see a speed camera!

I went from 175/65/14 to 205/45/16 and it only changes 1.34% to 70.94mph. Which is handy to know lol.

Yeah, not a bad idea mate. Didn't really think of that. I'll post it in the wheels forum and request the admins to make it a sticky. I shall leave it to their discression if they think it's a good idea or not.
Yeah mate, now you'll slow down a little bit more when you confuse those highway agency vehicles with real police!

The correct tyre size should be 205/40/17, not 205/45/17 as said before.
Anything bigger will probably catch on the arch liners or rub on full lock.

ok the tyres are 205/50/17, will that be too big then? the front one fits fine although I haven't checked if it rubs when I turn yet
