Hi, this is the story about the speedo.

Driving to work last friday and some numpty pulled out in front of me, I came to a hard stop - dont think I pulled the clutch in fast enough and the engine started to stall.

After that point my speedo was kind of stuck at 30, though it still moved up when the car sped up (strange doing 60-70 on the way to work lol)

got to work, and started - then stopped the car several times, after each time the speedo nudged slowly down to 0 mph.

Been driving it all weekend, speed was fine and satnav said it was reading the right speed, then it started again (reading 60-70) when doing around 30

tried the stop start trick and now the speedo does not work at all, and its stuck under 0mph everything else does work though.

Any suggestions, its a 2001 1.9d non abs model.

My speedo did the same thing last weekend and now has gone now all together

looks like it could be the speedo itself(clocks) or you could try and see if the needle has slipped of the spindle

My speedo stopped working ages ago, then a short while after the rev counter stopped too. I had to replace the whole cluster in the end. It's a really easy job though.

On a 2001 it will probably be pre-plexed which means the mileage is only stored in the cluster, not the ecu as well. Which means if you replace the cluster you'll have to get the mileage corrected.

(multiplexed ones store the mileage in the ecu too and will always display the higher of the two so if you got a cluster with a lower milage stored it'll display your correct mileage)

What He Said
or check the block connector to make sure it hasn't worked loose when you braked hard.

Just had the cluster off and glued the needle in case it was loose - also ran the car with the door open and it beeped at me so the sensor on the box is ok. it seems like the gearing behind the needle is fooked.

Just had a word with peugeot and they say even a 2001 bsi will program the milage into the speedo - so i should be ok with a lower milage speedo from a scrappy?

Exact words from the dealership technition was...

"even the preplexed 206 had a bsi of sorts and was partplexed, the milage would carry over from the bsi as long as the cluster was lower than milage than the bsi"
