Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a GTI instead of a engine conversion?

My old honda crx del sol had an engine conversion from 1.5 SOHC to a 1.8 DOHC. This was not done while i owned the car but by a previous owner. The receipt came with the car and iirc it was for roughly £2k, maybe a bit more. You are going to have to change a hell of a lot of things if you want to put a gti engine in a 1.....

So you hate french cars yet your going to spend thousands respraying/bodykitting/ converting one Laughing ? Just seems abit of waste of money mate and i think you will deffinatly have difficulties when you come to sell it. None the less if you wish to do it then crack on because after all its your money and your car!!

£400 for engine? are you on about prices buying the engine?

Think people above meant insurance for a gti wil be cheaper than an engine conversion car, ie.

£2k 1.1 - gti engine, insurance - £1000
£2k GTi standard, insurance - £600

Also if your thinking £400 for an engine your mad, can pick one up for about £150 *decent low miles* DIY fit would be easy, swap the whole subframe over, brakes, rear axle, exhaust etc, retro fit abs if ya dont have that already, or just remove it.

It would only take a day to swap it out, 5-8hours i recon, i can drop a gti engine out a car in about 2-3hours *in one piece*
