I've just come back from viewing an 04, 206, 1.4HDi S with 130000 miles.

Its tax n MOT'd till 06/2012 seems to drive ok, interior is in good condition and the bodywork.. well... its to be expected for the mileage (few minor scratches on most panels).

Only really one problem I've found, The M.F.D tells me the drivers door is open, when closed, would this be difficult to correct?

Is there anything I should be looking out for or paying special attention to on a car of that age/mileage?

A HPI check has come back clear and the car has a lot of receipts and invoices from garages which appear to look genuine.

The log book has some good service intervals the last 'service stamp' reads 91000.

Has most of its MOT certificates, non with any advisory notes.

The Cam belt looks good, no visable cracks or wear, it looks better than the cam belt on my car..

Overall it looks ok, but wanted some advice from others with same engine/model,mileage..

Thanks Smile

Maybe the sensor that gets pushed in when the door shuts is malfunctioning ?? I'd check that first, when you shut the door does the interior light go off?? Also are you sure you're looking at the cambelt (Timing belt) not the auxillary belt which drives the alternator, pas pump etc. The cambelt is hidden under covers and you can't see it without removing them whereas the aux belt is visible as soon as you open the bonnet. If you don't know when the cambelt has been changed then budget for a new one. I'll have a look on autodata when i get chance as i'm unsure without checking what the belt change intervals are on that one someone else may know. Smile

Ensure all lights come on on dash... seems obvious but i ran the ignition and it appeared all lights were on but the abs and engine management light were covered with duct tape!... and coil pack went on me within the first month!

i have a 53 reg 1.4hdi and just like any other 206 of this age you'll have the usual electrical gremlins (like the door sensor you noticed).

it's been owned by us for five years (four of which remapped with original clutch/gearbox) and what i find these days is that i am constantly having to replace front suspension parts. however, we have bad roads around our house & getting onto my drive requires a lot of lock with minimal movement etc but that's part and parcel of car ownership.
our has just hit 70k and is starting to sound like a bag of hammers, so i can't imagine how noisy one at 130k is!

i'd be more concerned with the ~39,000 miles of no service history - i'd be knocking the price of a full service off the price for a start and getting it done ASAP. you want to be changng oil regularly on any turbo car.

i stick to changing the timing belt kit at about 4 years/40k-ish, but like to do that quickly with any used car. others will tell you it's ok for 8/9 years on these but that is a crazy length of time in my mind. the owner may have recently fitted a new belt but kept the old rollers, you never know.
as above, are you definitely looking at the cambelt and not aux. belt?

to much i would say, especially for that mileage, i just sold my 2.0 hdi on an x plate for £950 with 133k on it and a simmilar sounding service history, ok mine had a bigger engine and was older so maybe less deseirable but sorely ist £850 less?

I bought a 2002 1.4HDI with 77k on it for £1,600. Runs very quiet and looked after well and hardly used by the previous owners. I thought for the low mileage and condition it was a very good deal, especially as they were looking more and I talked them down.

£1,750 for a noisy one with nearly twice the mileage sounds very excessive. Hell, a garage down the road from me is selling a 206 thats very similar to mine (same engine, colour and 5 doors), but with 133k on the clock and it's the LX version (mine's the Style) and it's only £1,300!

You could use the cash you save to change the windows so it's a car again!

b******s. In your "had a bad idea" thread is the real photo and the colour of your car is nothing like that above. Crap camara or not. You have adjusted the colour that much you've turned a green tree red.
