Hi i Have a 2000 206 GTI 138 and i'm getting some wierd problems i reckon its misfiring somewhere down the line.

Firstly when i accelerate and let go off the throttle completely the RPM counter needle just sticks at that RPM and takes ages to go back down to idle is that normal ?

Secondly im getting wierd noises like baning noises when i let go of the throttle at low speeds along with car wobbling and a strange engine rattle that only occurs on accelerating (doesn't always do it).

I can bare the knocks and rattles at low speeds but i can't bare the thought of my engine cylinders misfiring !! Shocked

Boo

the rattle when accelerating is more or less likely the mainfold heat shield, which need removing and spot welding, as for misfires mine is doing the exact same at low revs, but when i had mot done mechanic picked up on it during emmisions test said it could be coil pack, sparks plugs or most likely a injector on it way out

Start with clearing fault codes. the take it for a drive and re-read fault code.

Any exhaust leak? That will play havoc with fuelling.

engine maintaining revs is normal.....if you dip clutch, take it out of gear and release clutch then dip again and revs will drop. the engine has an EFE (electronic flyhweel effect) supposedly to burn off excess fuel while your changing gear etc.

the knocks could be anything, loose exhaust, worn mounts under the hood, loose suspension components etc
