Hi dont know if anyone can help but have X reg 206 petrol which has a problem.
If you start it from hot or cold it wont start until you put your foot on the accelerator then it will start and idle ok.
It will also drive ok once its started with no hesitation or problem.
If you then turn off ignition and try to start it without pressing accelerator pedal it will not start.
Have also noticed rev counter takes a couple of seconds to read after engine has started.
No fault codes are stored.
Things I have tried are have replaced idle valve, cleaned throttle body and checked all visible earths.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Which petrol engine is it?
As above give plugs and leads a check over and replace if necessary.
Idle control valve jobber could need a clean.
Throttle potentiometer is worth a check if yours is a tu type engine.

As you have unreliable starting and your rpm gauge is slow to respond after starting then I would suspect the engine crank/rpm sensor

i can't see how the plugs can be affected by you applying more throttle to get it started and you have said it runs fine after starting with no hesitation

Think I have found problem by accident tried to start car after being left a week and car turned over slowly so put jump leads on from another spare battery and it started perfect with no stalling. Removed jump cables and wouldn't start. Think maybe battery on edge of failing. Getting new battery tomorrow!!
