So my baby was broken into and my satnav (in the glovebox!) was stolen.. They left my radio though which was sticking out as I hadn't finished wiring the back up! So these theives were stupid. Radio > Satnav price-wise..
So I'm going to invest in an alarm, however I dont have a huge amount of funds behind me so lets go cheap! OH And must be relatively simple to install as I can't afford someone to fit it too.. But if i don't get some sort of alarm while I'm at work I'll constantly be thinking "is my car ok?!"
Are hawk alarms (like the HA-280W PRO) any good in terms of deterrences? My 206 already has an immobiliser and what not.. So its more for deterring low lifes from trying it again. What I really want is a dual sensor so anyone that gets close to my car gets an angry beep but I dont think £50ish pounds will get me that!
Oh and this theft was in a busy multistory car park! You just can't park safely anywhere... -.-
Note on the self fitting: I know it's not ideal but Hawk come with wiring diagrams, and I'll give it a proper test!

Look up clifford, only decent alarms I know of, not cheap though...

Clifford are good in my experience. I actually own a car with a Clifford system fitted. It's an older version but it's very good, self closes the windows, deadlocks all doors by constantly pulling at the door locks if you try to pull the pins up, basically it's a category 1 system. They also have the proximity system your'e thinking of but to be honest it's not worth having because it just scares the s**t out of people and actually ATTRACTS unwanted attention from d*ckheads (they think it's funny).

A multiplexed model deadlocks the doors automatically when you lock them.
To the OP, did you leave the tell tale suction ring mark on your windscreen advertising that you have a sat nav? Best thing to do is carry a cloth in the glove box and wipe your windscreen when you remove the sat nav from it. First place a scroat will look is in the glove box, second is under the seat.

Honestly, it's probably cheaper to just remove everything from the car, if they want to get in, no amount of alarming will stop them.

Not all multiplexed 206's have deadlocks fitted.
Most have normal central locking & some povety spec models have manual locks.
As for an alarm, a Cat 2 - 1 upgrade would be idea on a 206, just make sure its wired in correctly by a professional!
There have been plenty of p**s poor bodge jobs on here over the years by so called professionals, multiplexed 206's seem to attract alarm fitters that aint got a clue for some reason 
Hawk alarm, not worth a w**k, there cheap diy s**te

I thought mine was a povvy spec, must be better than I thought. If I press lock once the doors deadlock, press lock twice withing 5 seconds of each other and the deadlock is disabled. I can activate it with the key also by turning the key anti-clockwise (drivers door) to deadlock, and turning key twice anti clockwise within 5 seconds to deactivate the deadlocking.
OP, to save yourself a bit of money for now just install a flashing LED. Only a career criminal would know if it was a fake or real alarm, and ask yourself when was the last time you took notice of an alarm going off. You might glance round to see where the noise is coming from, but very few people will actually go and look for a car being broken into. Most of the time the smashing of glass or hammering of the lock will draw as much attention as a top of the range alarm. Alarms are known to activate by themselves, glass doesn't normally break unless it has a bit of help.

Fit the hazard / lock button, tweak BSI configuration & update the BSI software = flashing red led 
Later BSI software versions the alarm led will also flash when the immobiliser is armed.

Can you swap the 1 large haz switch, with the haz/lock one??

It was a straight swap in mine, but swapped it back as the auto locking wasn't an option in the BSI, which is why I bought it in the first place. I don't think it has an LED in though, unless its hidden.

Small led in the middle of the double switch
Led flashes for alarm & in later BSI software versions also immobiliser.

Yes BUT you need the BSI configuration set up tweaking & possibly also a BSI software update to get ALL the functions of the double switch working correctly.
