The strap which goes round my manifold has snapped. Just been to peugeot and been told it comes as part of the manifold at £130! Is there an aftermarket part or is it a case of welding bits on, not got a welder so would be easier for me to buy a new strap. This has probably been covered loads of times in the past but using the net via my phone so can't search.

Back box has a metal strap around it which fixes to the exhaust hanger, bottom part of this 'strap' is corroded.

yeah dunno why i put manifold. So no one makes an aftermarket strap. Seems crazy to have to spend £130 on a backbox just because the bit which fixes it to the car has failed.
Guess I'll be looking for a local welder.

Does a back box really cost £130? I'd have thought a more realistic price would be £25-£40. I imagine if the strap has snapped off due to corrosion, the rest of the exhaust system won't be much better?

Peugeot/most main dealer prices for any part of the exhaust system is quite high.
Save up and buy a nice cat back exhaust system?

Just phone around a couple of exhaust fitting centres in the local area for a good price? There is likely no difference in quality between the Peugeot-supplied exhaust and a decent one from an exhaust centre - except the price.

Cheers Dutch, I'll see what price he can dfo one for and also have a look round local exhaust places. No point getting any kind of sports exhaust as i've only got a 1.4 hdi van!

If its simply the metal rod, then plenty of places can sell metal rod for you. For example, B&Q. However, you'll want it welded to the back box or pipe, whereever it is; and probably bent to shape too. If there's enough clean metal to weld a new support to, then a welder will have no problems doing it. They might be able to do a repair at a local garage, for example. The danger is the cost of their time will exceed the cost of a new backbox. If you can weld yourself, then no worries. I could do it for you but I imagine the travel costs to-from Southport (35 miles each way) would make it not worthwhile. Also it would have to be a dry day, I'm not welding in the rain!
