Just had to share this on here. The 206 GTi seems to keep on going no matter what I do (and believe me, its driven hard daily)
Took it for its latest MOT and it passed with flying colours - 145,000 on the clock and all it needed was a brake light replacing before I took it in.
What really stood out was when the MOT tester asked me what I had done to the engine (the answer being 'nothing')... he couldnt believe an engine from 1999 with over 145k on the clock produced the emissions results that it did:
0.004% Co2 at idle (limit 0.300)
0.009% co2 at 2800RPM (limit 0.200)
23 ppm Hydrocarbons at 2800RPM (limit 200)
He reckons those are the lowest readings he has seen doing MOT's as most cars over 4 years are much higher.
To be fair, shes feeling her age now, the body needs a damn good respray and a lot of dings taken out. Other then that, all its needed in the (just under) three years that I have had it was an exhaust, clutch, front disks and pads (oh and a new heater blower).
Considering I bought the car for just shy of a grand with 110k on the clock and ive spent maybe 700 quid on parts/repairs this car has cost me just over 500 quid per year for some damn fun motoring!
Unbelievable motor, it refuses to die and loves to drive fast. I was going to sell her and buy myself another Evo but im really having second thoughts now.
Anyone else out there have similar experiences of their 206 Gti? I have no end of people telling me how unreliable Pugs are, esp in the electrics dept but I cant fault this one. Its solid as a rock and shows no sign of ever giving up. Love it to bits.

I'm sure you mean CO, and not CO2.
The engine will belch out loads of CO, but its the catalyst that reduces/eliminates this (and other harmful emissions )by changing it to CO2, N2 and H2O. I guess yours is working fine, looking at those figures!

Sorry, yes Co hehehe
Would be interested to know if these engines are all like that, seems pretty green to me to be so low. I know the catalyst reduces things a lot, but the output of the catalyst is always as a percentage of input from the engine?

As long as it's looked after and gets regular servicing then it should keep going. It's when people don't look after them and get big bills all at once that makes them scrap cars.

is there anyway of finding out where a previously owned car is now or how many times it hase been sold since? Would be interesting to look for a few of my oldies.

Its possible to see if a car is still taxed, but other info isn't officially available - so you can't see the new or subsequent owners details, or how many other times its changed ownership since you sold one. In theory, if you break the terms of service, you can check if any car is insured.

Ford still cant be bothered to galvanise there products to stop them rusting away, something PSA Peugeot / Citroen started doing back in the late 1980's.
Need we also mention the Ford 1.4 & 1.6 TDCi engines that where designed by PSA Peugeot / Citroen
