Bought my CC a few weeks ago and driving home the engine management light came on.
The seller told me it had a new cat not so long ago. Took it to the garage and they plugged it into diagnostics - cat threshold fault. I said that it had a new cat and he said the light is on because its probably and aftermarket cat and the car doesnt like it.
Has anyone else fitted an aftermarket cat and had this problem?
I also looked at the mot history and there was an advisory a year or 2 ago saying the EM light was on.
Should i just change the cat? What do i need? just the cat or is there any extra sensors that could be causing it. The garage basically told me not to worry about it.
But with the light being on im worried that if anything else happens im not going to know because the light is already on. Then my cars going to blow up and i will die
EDIT- MOT HISTORY - 14/06/2011 engine management light on
Receipts - 08/04/2010 - exhaust and fitting kit - £281.53
06/01/2011 - exhaust clamp and silencer - £78.89
I bought the car end of october and no light - then it came on whilst on the motorway.

It's a CC it will have been drove at 20mph for the past two years blocking the CAT. Just take it down the lanes or motorway and give it some hammer

You can only do this 50 times then you need a new ECU

It came on whilst giving it a hammering :s How do i reset the ECU? is it the turn car off, leave window undone and flash the lights thing?
If it turns off i will take it on the motorway and see how it goes

Does that include doing it with a proper code reader?

Doesn't matter if it's a ebay special or a £5000 Passthru+ device, each time you clear a code a service log is saved in the ECU's memory. As soon as you hit 50...the end
ECU need's reflashing or replacing.
