It seems you can buy one of these car's very cheap indeed, under a 900 quid on ebay.

Why is such a nice car with loads of toys so cheap?

Is it the recession?

Petrol price, tax and insurance, people are watching what they spend their money on these days, also they are not the newest cars any more.
04 plate silver, gloss black nimrods, 180 brakes, more to come.....

Because the early ones are over 12 years old now, add that to the fact they have a big engine it means people dont want the added fuel bill with current petrol prices. Its effected all hot hatches and performance vehicles. Its a buyers market at the moment not a sellers. Things are only worth what people are willing to pay.

Its because they are stupidly expensive to tax (like the equivalent of a Leon cupra or Audi S3 without the performance) and to insure group 17 for the 180 and 15 or something for the 138. Which is ridiculous really for the price of the car/ performance of the car.

My bf is getting an S3 next which is the same to tax and cheaper to insure than a 180!

Stupid!!

Same reason I don't have one; insurance. I could live with the petrol consumption.

For a young person; I'd guess insurance, I'm 18 and got quoted like, £5,500 haha. And for an older person, its probably more convenient to buy a smaller engined car which is more economical.

I was sorting quotes out for the 206 v6 and a astra turbo and the price of the pair of them combined came to the same total as a cupra r :S dont really understand that one as the cupra r was standard too :S

Thats alot more than the 1-2k for a gti though. Plus they are way more to maintain with servicing ect. Ive owned 3 imprezas and its the maintenance that hits you in the wallet.

No one can afford to run them so there's no demand to boost the price - in fact its the same with most cars at the moment. Ive stopped trying now because i might be having change of plans but i spent 2 months trying to find tidy price for my Golf GTI with a private plate.

If you had little money would you pick a small modern car in a low tax bracket or a thirsty 2.0 petrol?

i very nearly brought another 2000 gti 138 for £500. glad i didnt now as i probably wouldnt have made a profit on selling it on.
im planning on selling up after xmas and getting an accord type R as the insurance is not much different to my gti and tax is the same aswell. 138 bhp to 212 bhp and not much difference in insurance Very Happy
all down to the amount of accidents and claims people make.
