Recently there hasnt been a very good conection on my interior light. i have to twiddle the switch to get it to come on sometimes. so i set about taking the switch out and bending the terminals back a little. I did this with the engine running not really thinking of the damage that could be done...
i saw a spark as i was plugging the light back so somthing shorted but then the engine cut out and i lost all the ignition.
when i turned the key no ignition came on, no lights on the dash, no reley clicks like usual, no starter motor!
The radio still works, the side lights and dipped etc all work.
Checked all fuses all good. going to get tester on tmoz jus to be sure.
One thing i learnt a while back was if you wire the constant battery to the ignition live together behind the radio the ingition comes and stays on without the key in.
So i tried that and everything came on! turned the key and it started. (got home int end :)) so now every time i wanna go somewhere im going to have to hot wire my own car just to go somewhere (don't fancy that!)
my worst fear is that I fried some electrical jibberinsh somewhere ont car.
please help

so this is what happens in multi-plexed cars? I've had same problem with light but it was just bulb and do some electronics now and then even with engine on sometimes but the worse that has happened.. is just a blown fuse nothing more serious.

It should be a fuse.
Worse case is you've shorted your BSI

What can be done if I've shorted the BSI? Is it a new one?

Yes its a new one, off the top of my head its around the £250 mark plus coding into the car

As lee said fuses often trip the immobiliser.

£335 ish for a new BSI from Pug dealer & then the coding on top.

sounds like a fuse to me, i did a similar thing on my old 1.1... make sure any wires you touched are in exactly the same place too cause i found after wiring up some extra internal lighting a few years back i had done something that caused the ignition to remain constantly on

I was revering to when its been said about a BSI. Peugeot have not done too badly then. Even most mechanics know nothing about how Peugeot electrics work.

No idea why not, all cars are canbus these days.

PSA Peugeot / Citroen where one of the first car manufactures to use CAN / multiplexing, was only really Mercedes that used it any earlier.
