Right i have a handling problem that i've ignored for a while but after driving up the M1 tonight in the rain realised its actually quite dangerous and needs sorting, I THINK the tracking needs doing because it's been a long time since it was last done and a few suspension bits have been replaced since...

Here are my symptoms:

...car pulls to the right A LOT if I don't hold the wheel

...i have to hold the wheel about 1/8th of a turn to the left to drive in a straight line Laughing (probably because its constantly trying to pull right, sometimes i have to steer slightly left to take a gradual right turn haha)

...the steering feels very light and sort of, weak for the first quarter turn either way

as i say i think its tracking which i'll get done anyway but can anyone think of anything else it could be? Sad

cheers, J

Generally when the wheel is off center its the tracking, has one of the wheels had a knock or has the steering wheel always been like this?

Have you got any irregular tyre wear?

Do the tyres squeal easily in the dry

Easiest and cheapest thing to check is the tyre pressures. After that swap the front for the rear tyres so that they have equal tread wear and get it tracked. If you try and track it with the tyres as they are now, when you get new tyres on it will start pulling again.

Just get the tracking checked as lowering will throw it out

Check the bottom arm bushes NOT ball joint for wear too (as they split apart easy)

you may have trouble:

1, finding someone to do it
2, tracking it correctly with the changes that have been made Razz

I couldn't believe how much mine was out when I lowered it. It was perfect before and the laser was not even on the scale it was almost off the ramp. It was only a 35mm drop too.

Changing wheels can knock it out too. I changed from 15" Siroccos to 17" Vortex and the tracking was miles out!

When I lowered mine it was 8degrees out on the tracking. After it had been done it was like driving a new car!

Afraid to say this but thats what happens when you F**k about with suspension and wheels, its all a matter of geometry.

It wont hurt to get the tracking checked at least Smile Im not sure if its every branch, but Kingsway tyres near me check the tracking for free and only charge you if it needs doing. Although when I went and got mine done, they did ask if it was lowered or not.
