Morning eveyrone,

Just after some advice/info really!

The wind caught the drivers door of the birds 206 5 door this morning (strong gust caught it and pulled it out of my hand) Sad

The door shot open and stopped, but when i went to close it, it would appear the door has dropped (as prehaps you would expect when the hinge pins are worn out). The door then caught on the latch part on the B pillar. It wasnt particularly easy to shut, so i have (for the time being) adjusted the latch part on the B pillar to stop the catching and possible further damage (but the shut lines are way out)!

The check strap on this door needs replacing anyway, but what further damage would have occured? Would i be lucky enough to escape with just a couple of bent pins, or could damage to the door, other hinge components or at worst damage to the A pillar?

Anyone had this happen before/any advice?

Think her birthday present might be a repair to her car!

Aww how sweet, what is she a canary? Be careful she doesn't get worn out flapping her wings in these winds.

Without seeing the damage it's not easy to say. It may just be the hinge pins, or the door itself could have been twisted. I know you have said the door has dropped, but what about the alignment to the rear door and to the front wing. Even the alignment to the roof can give an indication of any damage. At worst you'll be looking at a new door, at best it might just twist back into place with a bit of force.

I'd take it into a body repair centre and ask for an estimate. It's a free way of finding out what damage has been done.

Lol! She flapped so much they almost dropped off!

From what i could see, before i adjusted the catch it seemed to have dropped around 10mm from the top corner near to the rear door.

When the door was also shut before i adjusted the catch, the door lined up perfectly at the top, and the shut lines were nice and even around the door, it just caught on the catch when shutting Sad

Will try and pop into somewhere tomorrow afternoon i think!

Cheers for the info!

I have some hinges and check straps if you need them.

Cheers Lee, i may do indeed!

Going to have a more in depth look later on when i get the car in the bay at work!

Must admit, missed the warnings but usually pretty careful. Probably doesnt help working on top of a hill in the middle of nowhere and trying to catch that gap in the wind where it dies down for a few seconds! Certainly not parking near any posts, telecom boxes or trees tonight!
