There is a high pitched screaming electrical noise after the ignition is turned off or when the central locking is switched off. When the ignition is turned on, the noise mainly stops. When the radio is on, on normal volume the sound is very low and muffled/crackling noise.

I’ve taken it to a garage and they are absolutely flabbergasted, have never heard anything like it. They say if it was a fault with radio, you wouldn’t hear a noise when ignition/all power was switched off.??

Please help!

Jo

Can you give us more detail on where the noise is coming from?

Original factory radio OR aftermarket unit?

Sounds like an earthing fault to me.

Can you record the sound on your phone or something and upload it to YouTube so we can hear what it sounds like?

like mrbsi wrote, it's probably a bad earth.
first place i would look is your car stereo wiring blocks.

if you have aftermarket audio anywhere then try a ground loop isolator see if that helps.

Thanks for your replies

I think the noise is coming from the speakers, It is an original factory radio, so I'll try the stereo wiring as suggested (or rather get a man to do it for me)

If I uploaded sound to youtube I think you would run away holding your ears, as it is revolting ear-piercing high screeching noise

use the fader (front/rear) and balance (left/right) features to see if you can narrow it down to a single speaker without taking stuff out.
