Every single time I've fitted non-genuine pug parts it turns-out worse and with minimal price difference.

OK delerships do charge a lot for work, but if you have the correct part numbers (servicebox helps) it really makes a lot of sense to get the original part since it actually works-out cheaper in many cases, and then fit it yourself as many do on here.

From bitter experience:

K&N panel filter does NOT allow more airflow. It does NOT filter more effectively. I have done extensive comparison with paper filter and decided all that is happening is that the engine is running slightly rich due to the decresed air-flow with the K&N. This could be percieved as a tiny increase in torque/power but...
You can check this easily by holding your hand behind each filter type and blowing hard at it. (extensive test)

Bilstein B4 'OEM" quality shocks;
They most certainly are NOT oem quality. I have since found-out that the only thing Bilstein about them is the sticker with the name on it. They are simply diabolical and I strongly recommend people steer clear off them.

Non-specified spark-plugs like Super4 are also questionable since the only ones BOSCH recommend are Super+, and they make the damn things. The price difference is tiny and the + type are more advanced.

There are a few cases where you get an actual improvement like Philips X-treme lightbulbs but that is somewhat different I think.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts and I respect if anyone has a different experience. Smile

I have to agree with what you have said to be honest. I had bilstein shocks in and the car lurched around all over the shop. The other thing I noticed was that my lap times were actually SLOWER with the supposed 'better than O/E quality' that Bilstein offer. I have since fitted Peugeot Sport running gear and my car is planted and very sure footed, even in the wet!

I've tried multiple filters on my GTi 180 (Green/Simota/K&N/ 'universal'/ Pipercross/ BMC) and only the Pipercross and BMC actually improved airflow (and I have a modified inlet with porting and polishing and I still only got a slight improvement in actual air flow!)

It has to be said that some aftermarket parts are VERY high spec and I am extremely pleased with Ecosse for the parts they have supplied and are going to supply me in the future.

In general O/E is more expensive and there is a reason for this, particularly with the 180 as most aftermarket suspension/ brakes etc generally don't meet the same standards.

It is always going to be luck of the draw with things like this and it is always best to research thoroughly before buying any parts.

If in doubt, check it out!

I agree with your points, but I wouldn't say that aftermarket is bad across the board. Some aftermarket stuff is of very high quality, you just end up paying a lot more...

It is not all bad, as people rightly said.
The Brembo discs and pads I've fitted at the front have made a great improvement and was money well spent.
So yes if you know what you're doing you can get good results.
I think I went for the wrong things by trying to make a saving.

I have Bilstien shocks on my car, and I must say they are a vast improvement on the stock suspension and cost roughly the same. I don't do timed laps on a track or anything, so maybe my opinion isn't so valid. But when driving on the roads my 206 definitely handles better round corners and feels a lot tighter.
