Hi from Australia everyone.
I thought I'd see if any of you UK folks can help.
My air conditioner is working fine, blows nice and cold air but.......only blows cold air through the passenger side air vents. The driver side just blows normal air, very strange.
Has anyone had a similar issue and/or any suggestions as to what may be causing this?
Oh, the car is a Peugeot 206 99-2000 model, very basic air con.
Thanks in advance!

Hi to you too!
When you close the passenger side vents do you then get cold out of the driver's vents?
If you have a pollen filter have you inspected/ changed it? As poor flow in to the cabin won't help if it's being restricted there
Hot air will always win over cold air if your vent box has a divertor flap problem eg flap not sealing or broken

Hello deckchair, Thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately the middle vents ( passenger left and driver right) have a shared open/close switch, so I can't isolate just the driver side. What I can do is switch off both the far passenger side (next to the door)and the two middle vents and leave the far right drivers vent open, will see what happens and get back to you. What would it determine depending on what temperature air it will be blowing??
I'm not sure what you mean by pollen filter, is that somewhere next the air con inside the car?
I initially thought it might be a flap problem but from what I can gather the cold air comes from one source and there is only one flap, so it's strange that one side would work and not the other.
I did notice a sponge like seal, between the air con unit and where the vents attach is deteriorated and only on the drivers side. I put my hand over it with the air con running but it didn't make a difference but I'm still wondering wether that is the problem....

Pollen Filter is under the bonnet.
Open the bonnet, and on the Left Hand Side (Standing, facing the car) under the bonnet vents.
It is in that hole there

You mean that filter under the bonnet 95% of the people on here have never bothered to change

Yeah, that one!
The 2 206's I have had, they have both been black.
It is such an easy job to change, don't know why people don't do it!?
I had an 1996 E34 once, and the heater just would not work.... Turned out to be the pollen filter being blocked (guy I got it from thought it was the fan motor). It didn't look like it had been changed in the 16 years the car was on the road!
New Filter. Problem Solved

Ok thanks guys, will take a look, but surely that wouldn't be the cause of no cold air through driver side vents..?...?

It depends whether you have strong air flow out of the vents on both sides. If the fan is being throttled by a blocked filter then air will just find the easiest way to go and if it's the passenger side that's easiest then that's where it goes.
You could of course have a blockage on the driver's side which is why I suggested turning off the passenger vents and see if you CAN get a decent cold air flow out of your driver's side
If you have leaks in the air distribution system at joints then that isn't going to help the air flow

Hi Deckchair,
I'm getting airflow through all of the vents, no problems there, but only passenger side is cold.
I tried shutting the passenger side vents and just having the driver vents open but it makes no difference to the temperature, still just warm air.
It must be an issue that is right at the source of the cold air but I would have assumed there is only one door/flap that sends cold air to both vents, so it seems strange that one side is cold and not the other.

It can simply be a low charge in your aircon system, just like your radiator is hot at the top and can be cold at the bottom then the same goes for your air con evaporator if it is low charged or has poor flow then there can be a temp variation across it so maybe check the system is charged properly first
If it's any help, there's a few flaps/ valves in the vent distrinution box. The recirculation valve, the mixer/blender (hot/cold) valve and then the distribution valve or valves
As you're getting good air flow to the upper vents so there's no blockage involved then it might be your mixer/blender valve broken, maybe half way across so that it's only allowing the cold air to one part of the upper air vent channels and providing constant hot air to the others
