would my em light come on if my alternator was f****d when i rev it and then at 5k bounce then drop to 4k and bounce on full throttle, my girl friend broke down the other day, i recovered it after work which was about 10.30 when i got there lol, she was driving along sitting at the traffic lights went to pull away and stalled, started it again then stalled then it wouldnt start again.... as if the battery was dead, when i got it home i jumped it and ran it round the block but it was bouncing off the limiter, my belt is abit s***ty so my theory is ' if the belt is s**t it is slipping up under fast load and cant keep up with the power demand for the injectors, coil pack and ecu? somethings telling me its charging but its not right

Get a meter across the battery terminals whilst the engine is running instead of ragging the nuts off it and guessing!
Also, check the earth strap from the alternator to the chassis. If thats snapped/badly corroded your battery won't charge.

Were the headlights dimmed? Was it turning over very sluggish or turning over fine but failing to start?

Well either battery, alternator or bad earth to alternator.
Check the earth strap first, then you'll need your multimeter to check the battery/alternator.

As said above, get yourself a new multi meter and put it across the battery, should be around 12v. Turn the engine over, it should go go around 14v.

If it's a dodgy battery/alternator, stop messing around in case you damage your ecu through volt drops/spikes. Get the battery & alternator tested before you start unplugging sensors and confusing the ecu even more.
