since I bought the car its always had a nice purr/growl noise coming from the engine, but recently its been getting louder, becoming more of a tap. Ive always thought it was the injectors doing their job properly but recently they sound like there not having as good a time.
when I accelerate and change gear there is the usual purr im used to but when the car is putting a little efford in but not lots it makes a tapping sound, and when I put my foot down it stops tapping.
Not sure if this is normal or not?
any ideas?

HDI that had a purr, now it seems to be developing into a tap
I change the oil every 6000 miles and change oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and coolant every 12000 miles.
I also use redex every 1-2 months.
Its hard to describe the noise, I think its the injectors, getting worried the remap I had done could be taking its toll on the injectors not sure. I might just be listening to hard and thinking its getting worse.
Recently took the sump off and replaced it after hitting a rock down a farm track, caused a small oil leak. so all the sludge that had built up in there has gone too. Very well maintained, apart from the dent on the front from a recent collision with a deere.
Might have the remap taken off and see if it sounds any different. Miss my constant 65mpg I used to achieve too

Could be the crankshaft pulley mine does the same I'm going to change mine next week, get it pressure tested by a mechanic to see if it's the injectors or check for fuel around the injectors, mine has a tapping noise its quite loud but I'm 90 percent sure it's the pulley it's a common problem with the hdi

I almost got persuaded into buying a new rio with my savings lol, but changed my mind at last min, don't like new cars because the devalue too much and I'd rather buy a second hand one and save some money for a deposit on a house
