Are you sure it's the scanners' fault matey?
Which Maxiscan did you get? And what year is your 206?

1.4i, 2001, 3-door, China Blue

That's because you didn't check the protocol of your car. That scanner is perfect for a eobd compliant car. Your car isn't eobd, hence why you need a more expensive one.

EODB is a EUROPEAN standard that came if for petrol cars from Sept 2001 and diesels from Sept 2004, Even then the likes of PSA had special electronics with the BSI that needs extra software. You might be an EODB reader to work on a Pug, but you'll only be able to read and clear the faults.

OBDII or ODB-2 is a US standard so no European car would be equipped with that unless is was sold in the US ... I've never seen a peugeot 206 when I've been out there!

Before EODB the software was up to the manufacturer and most had something hybrid meaning standard code readers may not work .. worse still some thing they do and the faults returned are incorrect or the meanings are interpreted differently.

Even if the socket for the code reader is the same ... and most are standard 16-pin ODB sockets ... they are wired up differently and the software behind the plug is different.

And a 96-year old car would have relied on a very good mechanic to diagnosed the faults ... as did cars up to about the 90s! Wink

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

Depends on the protocol that the car runs whether or not a US spec scanner will work Wink

Or if you know what each pin is, you can get the scanner to scan some ECUs if they diag via K-Line or KWP rather than ISO

My Sealey scans but it never picks up the Alfa on the k-line ... it does pick up both Pugs, the Clio but not the newest in the family .. the MiTo which will be EODB but CANBUS. Might be a newer version of CANBUS that the sealey hasn't had an update for yet.

Just file a claim. Shouldn't buy china crap in the first place really. If you are going to buy clones, get them from places like Russia and Romania
